Definition

E-commerce is the process of buying and selling products and services online.

Size and Growth of E-commerce: UK

• According to the most recent UK Government figures, just within the UK, the total value of eCommerce is £408 Billion and growing at 24.9% (Second paragraph of please download)
• Companies selling through e-retail grew by 14% in 2011, bringing the total UK ecommerce sales to £95.9 billion

Size and Growth of E-commerce: Europe

• Poland leads European E-commerce growth with a 24% hike in e-retail compared to a European average of 16.1%.
• Europe says aims to double e-commerce by 2015

Size and Growth of E-commerce: World

• Chinese ecommerce to grow by 320% to overtake the US

• According to Google and the Boston Consulting Group, Globally, the UK is the world leader for eCommerce.
• Exporting is a central feature of UK-based eCommerce. If a company does eCommerce then for every Pound spent then it exports £2.80. This is the opposite of the offline economy where, for every Pound spent, 90p is exported
